Qutkynnyaqu and Crab
A long time ago, there lived Q and his family.(Q’s) son was Am, who had a wife called T. and a son called Aq.
Q also lived with his nephew S., niece R., and wife Miti.
One morning, Q said,
“Old woman Miti, give me clay trousers, and a clay cap, a clay belt and a clay knife, so that I can go to the seashore.”
The old woman prepared everything that he asked for: clay boots , clay trousers, a clay coat, and a clay knife. And (Q) put them all on and went to the seashore.
(When Q) arrived (at the seashore), he saw a big hair crab.
There lay, how to say, a big hair crab taking a nap.
Q circled around (the crab).
Q sang a song.
(SONG) Crab, carry me to the place where there is rich seal fat.
Then Crab said,
“Hey Q, cut it out! The tide is still out.
Let me have a nap for a while.”
Then the old man (= Q) went to the other side, and kept circling around the crab.
Then the crab blew up at Q.
(Crab) said,
“Wait a moment here at the seashore.”
The big hair crab went into the, how to say, sea.
(Crab) arrived at a seal village.
(Crab) said,
“Q will come here.
Do not give him a drink. Please feed him adequately.
Let him suffer from thirst, that rat! He interrupted my sleep.”
Then Crab went back to the seashore.
(Crab) arrived (at the seashore).
“Now Q, climb onto my back and hang on tight. Otherwise you will fall into the sea.”
Q climbed onto (Crab’s) back.
(When Q) hung on tight (to Crab’s back), (they) started on their way .
(Crab) carried (Q) to, how to say, a big walrus village.
There (the walruses) said to Q,
“Hello, (our) guest. Please have some seal meat.”
Q ate his fill.
(Q) said,
“Give me some tea. Give me something to drink.”
(The walruses) said him,
“There is a big pot at the, how to say, entrance.”
“Give me a cup.”
“We have no cup.
Drink out of the pot.”
(Q) went to (the entrance).
Scarcely before (Q) bent to drink the water, (he) fell down into (the water).
(He) went to another village.
This time, (he) arrived at a whale village.
There he ate his fill again.
(Q) said again,
“Oh please, I very much want to drink tea, and I am very thirsty.”
“But we have no water, no tea.
There is a big pot over there.
If you want, drink from the pot.”
(Q) went to the pot.
Again, scarcely had (Q) touched his mouth to the water that he fell into (the water).
(He) came to another village.
(He came to), how to say, a seal village.
There (he) ate his fill again. Then (Q) began to suck his finger after dipping it in soup. (He) was very thirsty and could not eat any more.
Then, he came to there, the last village, how to say, a whale village.
There lived an old woman and her daughter together.
That (old woman) said,
“Hey, feed the old man quickly. Give him a big feast.”
And Q. said:
" I cannot eat any more.
I feel thirsty, I want to drink tea, I want to drink cold water"
(Q.) sang a song.
(SONG) Oh, Miti, you will drink cold spring water
The old woman have pity (on Q.).
Please eat, old man.
Have some tea at first.
(Whales) gave Q. a plenty of tea and (Q.) fell asleep.
And (Q.) slept two days.
And when (he) woke up (he said).
Hey, how to say, Jun., I will ate meat.
(Jun.) gave (Q.) to eat a plenty of seal meat. (She) boiled seal meat and gave (Q.) to drink tea.
There, at whales, Q. lived for a while.
And one day (Q.) said.
Hey, it is enough. I will go there, how to say, home.
I will back to the land, to (my) home.
My old woman Miti is waiting for me there, and (my) children, grand children, daughters-in-law (are waiting for me).

I will take you with your daughter together.

And Ju. and Jun. climbed onto (the sledge).
The mother is Ju. and the daughter is Jun.

The little son was named Junjulian.
